Join us at the homestead of Tarcisio “Taz” Ramos Dos Santos from the History Channel’s “Alone” series to participate in a few homesteading basics - including working with chickens, taking care of donkeys, and fire making and tending. We’ll end the evening with fireside snacks and conversation about how the homesteading skills learned that day connect to the world of The Bear by Andrew Krivak (available at the library) – this year’s Becket Athenaeum Big Read title. Registrants are encouraged to read the book in advance of the workshop, but are not required to do so.
Tarcisio “Taz” Ramos Dos Santos is a musician, homesteader, and survivalist who was born and raised in Brazil's smallest state by the Atlantic Ocean and spent his childhood living off the land without electricity or running water. Taz was a contestant on season 10 of the History Channel's Alone and survived for 40 days in Northern Canada. Taz is also a member of Berkshire Bateria, founder of Quarteto de Samba, and a music educator who promotes musical diversity in schools and colleges in Western Massachusetts. Taz now lives in a treehouse in Becket and has graciously invited us to his homestead to share his skills.
