One World: A Story, Song, and Hands-on Musical Instrument Experience

  • Becket Athenaeum 3367 Main Street Becket, MA, 01223 United States (map)

John Porcino, local storyteller & musician, will share funny and moving stories from many of the world’s people and play fascinating and beautiful musical instruments from many of the places they come from. He’ll teach participants how to handle the instruments and then set them free to make their own music (no “mouth” instrument in this part). Think of this as a "musical instrument petting zoo".

This event replaces our morning Storytime.

Born and bred in the suburbs of New York, John Porcino currently resides in Amherst, Massachusetts where he is an auditioned artist on the New England Foundation for the Arts, Massachusetts Touring, Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) Creative Teaching Partners, and MCC Performers rosters. Along with some 250 performances and workshop each year, he directs Farm and Wilderness Family Camp and most importantly is the father of two great young adults. He is a former classroom teacher, park naturalist, and director of two youth camps, and staff at numerous summer camps and outdoor education centers.
