Teen Library and After-School Program Interns - The deadline to apply for the January to June 2025 session has passed.

The Becket Athenaeum employs multiple teen interns. Interning at the library is often a young person’s first job and we intend to teach skills that will be helpful in their future employment.

We are a vibrant library and community center for the towns of Becket and Washington. We have adult and youth programming, book clubs, and a varied selection of books, DVDs, magazines, music, games, museum passes, and more for loan. We are currently staffed by 4 paid professionals and several teen interns.

Intern tasks may include, but are not limited to:

  • check-in/out and shelve items

  • library-wide projects

  • assist with children’s programming

  • After-School Program Intern: assist with Pre-K to 5th grade program

Interns will be paid $15 per hour. The Library Intern will be scheduled Wednesdays after school for 2 hours (approximately 3:15 to 5:15) and Saturdays from 10am to 12pm from January to June 2025. The After-School Program Intern will be scheduled Thursdays after school (approximately 3:15 to 5:15) from January 2025 through the end of the end of the 2024/2025 school year. Computer proficiency required for Library Interns (both Mac and PC) and familiarity with, or ability to learn Google Suite.

A Massachusetts youth employment permit is required for anyone ages 14 to 17. The permit application requires a doctor’s signature based on a recent exam for 14 and 15 year-olds. Applicants younger than 14 will be considered for an Internship Trainee position which is paid an hourly stipend of $11/hr.

We seek diversity of skill, perspective, and background in our interns. All teenagers are welcome to apply! A current or past intern may apply for any session.
